    EVENT REVIEW ::: David Rogigan’s ‘Ram Jam & Friends’

    Last Friday I literally had the time of my life and it’s fair to say that my fellow companions did equally. Although predominantly a Reggae and Dub night, I love that main man of the night David ‘Ram Jam’ Rodigan pulled together artists from different generations and different genres, successfully getting a mixed crowd going until 6am. There was legendary Reggae singer Bitty McClean, Manchunian Drum and Bass duo Dub Phizix and the rising star that is Liverpudlian DJ Mele. [...]

    FESTIVAL REVIEW ::: Pleasure Principle

                                                       Photo By Erez Avissar So we set off from London Town at 2pm in an absolute trooper of a Toyota Rav 4, the mood was rife and filled with curiosity & excitement. New Quay in the gracious lands of Cornwall was the destination, where we hoped to find a paradise filled with soulful sounds & insane [...]

    LIVE REVIEW ::: VV Brown ‘Birthdays’

    I was pleasantly surprised when an invite to go and review VV Browns return to music arrived in my inbox. Memories of having enjoyed her earlier material such as ‘Shark in the Water’ came to mind and I was eager to hear what she had been creating over her last few years of radio silence in the music world. Support came in strength from the wonderful Nadine Shah whose haunting Sade vocals got the east London crowds focus quickly fine [...]

    LIVE REVIEW ::: Streetfest

    What were you doing last Sunday? Fingers crossed whatever it was that it involved the sun, family or friends because mine involved all three. I enjoyed the festivities that Streetfest had to offer and believe me, it was never ending as the day began at 1pm and carried up right until 11pm, with the option to party hard with some Urban Nerds DJ’s. The day itself can only be described as high octane family fun with an urban edge, it [...]

    EVENT ::: LoveDough ‘Mikill Pane Live’

    Absolute madness unfolded at LoveDough when Mikill Pane performed live on a crazy Friday night in Camden. Carly Wilford bizarrely catches up with Mikill Pane, XO Man & Jordan from the Rizzle Kicks. The whole crew chats about such insane subjects as Mikill Pane not having an STI check in his entire life and lots more. The only way to explain these matters is to have a watch right now. LIVE REVIEW ::: Ed Banger Records ’10th Anniversary’

    What an absolutely insane night was had last Friday at ‘The Forum’ in North London for Ed Banger Records 10th Anniversary. Busy P and the crew spared no limits when it came to putting together an action packed house flavoured lineup. When we entered the venue, I could hear nothing but soulful sounds coming from the system at ‘The Forum’, you could literally feel the vibes of a night ‘to remember’ charging through your spine at not a seconds pace. Breakbot [...]

    LIVE REVIEW ::: UD LIVE ‘Cargo April 2013′

    It’s not often an event forces you into a headlock, grinds you down until you’re close to tears and then releases you, leaving you smiling and possibly a little bit drunk. But that’s exactly what UD Live did for me. I entered Cargo, in East London, with little expectations placed on the night; I’d been before and whilst MckNasty, the host, his Team and the acts made the night memorable, I tend not to place my bets on an event [...]

    LIVE REVIEW ::: WIiley at The Forum

    ‘Anybody who thinks I can’t do it anymore better step right back and take that’ Saturday night felt like I was 14 years old tuning in to Rinse FM trying to hear this new sound from an up and coming artist Wiley. This man has paved the way for Grime crediting him the “Godfather of Grime”. Wiley sprints on stage so fast you wonder where his run-up began, as if making up for a stop-start career restricted by his unpredictable [...]

    REVIEW ::: OLIVA TWEEST at The Lyric Theatre

    It’s been a while since I’ve been to the theatre, in fact the last time I went was around four years ago when I saw Wicked. Oliva Tweest couldn’t be further away from the Wizard Of Oz, set in 2013 we followed the life of a young African lad who has an eye for the ladies, well it can’t be helped when the ladies are falling at their feet over him. The musical was based around D’Banj’s ‘Oliver Twist’ hit [...]

    LIVE REVIEW ::: Bastille & Laura Mvula at The Hospital Club

    Its not often that you’ll ever catch me at a gig by myself. In fact, that has never happened, but when I got asked to go to a gig to review Bastille and Laura Mvula, playing The Barclaycard Mercury Prize Sessions, I was not going to pass up that opportunity. Travelling by myself down to Covent Garden, with Laura’s album playing in my car on repeat, its an understatement to say that I was excited to see this woman perform [...]

    LIVE EVENT ::: Musicalize

      Musicalize. They’re known as ‘the UK’s fastest growing live music showcase event’ and the night of music was a complete success. This was my second time going to the event held at the indigo 02, London and it’s safe to say that it was also my favorite. The crowds consisted of a mixture of fans, from young girls screaming for Dappy to hit the stage to Ms Dynamite’s fans waiting to get down low with her. The first act [...]

    UNSIGNED ::: Brick City ‘Brick City Cliq Mashup’

      Let me introduce you to the stupidly talented group known as Brick City. Made up of Duane, Anton, James and Yazmin and formed  a mere two months ago, this London based harmony group have been putting in serious overtime to perfect their already defining voices, having all started as solo artists but ‘joining forces’ to create something that is hard to describe. I might find it hard to describe but Brick City certainly found some ways to describe their sound, stating [...]

    LIVE REVIEW ::: Shea at Floripa, 20th March

    In a month where we should be enjoying the rites of spring. Daffodils and bluebells, new born baby lambs and chicks, Shea arrives as a very much needed ray of sunshine. Whilst most of the audience are regaining the feeling in our toes, Shea skips onstage in colourful regalia and launches straight into a set of reggae inspired, soul pop tunes. First track Radioactive talks of a new age with an optimistic outlook. A stripped back acoustic track that narrates [...]

    LIVE REVIEW::: Lewis Watson at KCLSU, London

        I first heard of Lewis Watson, through YouTube’s  ‘recommended for you’ service having been listening to Gabrielle Aplin and Hudson Taylor for God knows how many hours. All I can say is this: THANK YOU YouTube. The musician from Oxford has over 58,000 subscribers and has come an astounding distance since his early covers of Bon Iver and Bombay Bicycle Club. Having been signed by Warner Bros.Records, he’s released two EPs: ‘It’s Got Four Sad Songs On It [...]

    LIVE REVIEW ::: Everything Everything at The Leadmill.

    The Leadmill in Sheffield was packed as Everything Everything took to the stage. Their set began with ‘Kemosabe’, lead singer Jonathan Higgs’s high pitched melodic vocals had the crowd stood in silent appreciation. ‘Torso Of The Week’ showcased their Tudor-esque. harmonies which their unique style derives from while ‘QWERTY Finger’ showed Higgs full vocal range. His ability to jump from chilled and melodic Yeasayer style vocals to heavier, more dance orientated Does It Offend You Yeah? inspired vocals was impressive. [...]

    NEWS ::: NME Awards 2013

    The NME Awards took place this week, bringing a much needed ounce of rock and roll to awards season. Unfortunately there were no punch ups or televisions thrown over The Troxys balcony, however there was much spectacle and some great performances. Godlike genius winner Johnny Marr performed an oustanding six set gig with a breathtaking version of ‘There is a light that never goes out’ and later had The Vaccines singer Justin Young join him onstage for a rendition of [...]

    LIVE REVIEW ::: Eliza and the Bear ::: Best in Class Festival

    For those looking for their new music fix in February you should definitely get yourself to The Old Queens Head this week for their Best In Class festival. It’s a weeks worth of great new acts such as Animal Kingdom, Gaggle and hotly tipped Nzca/Lines. Monday kicked off proceedings with not one but two bands from Essex. Wild Combination and Eliza and the Bear. Wild Combination launch head first into sonic tunage of epic proportions. Their sound is huge, think [...]

    EVENT REVIEW ::: Keaton Henson at The Freud Museum

    Today is a good…no today is an amazing day, and considering its a Monday and its minus temperatures outside this is quite a deceleration. Why is it so good I hear you cry…well it’s only Monday 25th February and its the day Keaton Henson’s shiny new album ‘Birthdays’ is released for all you lovelies to hear, cry over and adore. I was fortunate enough last week to attend an intimate performance (of front room proportions) by the achingly shy heartbroken [...]
