With the Mallorca 2012 season in full swing, Sunday evenings in Magaluf are all about one thing only…Mallorca Live! The live music / club night combo at BCM Planet Dance in Magaluf has already made it’s mark this Summer with the likes of Rizzle Kicks, Dappy, Tulisa, JLS and Professor Green having already taken to the BCM stage with their show stopping performances.
Last Sunday (15th July) was the turn of one of urban music’s pioneers Dizzee Rascal. As night fell over the Balearic island, excitement intensified as huge crowds made their way towards the 5,500 capacity superclub. With the offer of free drinks before 1am as an added bonus for ticket holders it’s no surprise that the majority of the island’s holiday goers were inside a fully packed venue.
Kicking off proceedings with DJ sets were Scott Page and Capital FM’s Andi Durrant (whose set was streamed across the Capital network back in the UK). It’s fair to say that these guys had the crowd in the palm of their hands! Tracks such as Azealia Banks ’212′, Rita Ora’s ‘R.I.P, Labrinth’s ‘Earthquake’ and Tinie Tempah’s ‘Pass Out’ were just a few of the tracks that drew a massive response from the hyped up crowd. From hands in the air to crowd surfing to mini moshpits it was the perfect setting for what was about to happen.
As it got closer to 3am, it was all about one thing. Having already had a DJ spin of ‘Bonkers’ the crowd couldn’t wait for man of the moment Dizzee Rascal. Introduced as ‘the man who changed the face of UK music’ DJ Scott Page also listed his musical credentials in the form of 5 number 1 singles, a Mercury prize, an NME award, an Urban music award, a BRIT award and a BET award.
As Dizzee Rascal took to the stage he assured the crowd that he was going to be responsible for them having the best night ever in Mallorca – and he didn’t disappoint! For the next 90mins Dizzee Rascal showed why he has that legendary status. Whether it was classic tracks such as ‘Fix Up Look Sharp’ or new material such as ‘Bass Junkie’ the crowd loved every minute.
Accompanied by his official DJ MK and hype man Scope, Dizzee took the crowd on a musical journey. After performing 5 tracks including ‘Fix Up’, ‘Heavy’ and ‘Let The Bass Drop’ he handed over to his DJ MK whose mini mix included tracks such as Kanye West / Jay Z ‘Paris’ and Nirvana ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. Whilst Dizzee and Scope danced around the stage the crowd were in full voice singing every word of MK’s mix.
Dizzee then jumped back into his set with 9 other tracks including ‘Dance Wiv Me’, ‘Holiday’ and ‘Jus A Rascal’. As he neared the end of his set everyone knew there was still one big track to perform. With the main floor packed tight and the VIP floor full of celebs including Hollyoaks’ Abi Phillips, ex-Towie star Mark Wright and superstar DJ Afrojack, Dizzee performed possibly his biggest tune to date ‘Bonkers’ to an electrifying crowd response. With each reload of the track the crowd response was more and more electric with literally every person in the club obeying Dizzee’s commands to ‘bounce, bounce, bounce.’
As Dizzee exited the stage to enjoy drinks in VIP, DJ’s Page and Durrant went straight back into the mix for another 1 hour of non-stop club bangers. With a venue curfew of 6am the dancefloor remained packed as the crowds wanted the full Mallorca Live experience!
Having secured the rights to officially the best start to the week all eyes turn to Tuesday’s Mallorca Live event in BCM with Tinie Tempah and next Sundays event with a DJ set from Taboo (Black Eye Peas) and PA from Wretch 32.
