“Another Sunday night, another great show” – These were the words of a few Essex based holiday makers leaving BCM nightclub as the sun was rising on early Monday morning. Like us they had just finished at another excellent Mallorca Live event.
As each event finishes (the last being Tinie Tempah on the previous Tuesday), the excitement on the island grows for the next event. Flyers and posters adorn the local streets and ticket sellers are always on hand to sell the last few remaining tickets. It was no different with this event with special guests Taboo (from the Black Eye Peas) performing a DJ set and a live PA from Wretch 32.
Resident Mallorca Live DJ Andi Durrant was on hand to keep the crowd entertained before the appearance of Wretch 32. For what initially seemed liked a more subdued crowd, Durrant soon got the crowd hyped with his mix of new school anthems. As always the promise of part of the show being broadcast across the Capital FM network is always a good reason for plenty of crowd interaction.
As Wretch 32 took to the stage it was clear to see that he is a natural born entertainer. As he took to the stage Wretch and his DJ Smash ensured that the crowd were definitely ready for an excellent set. Performing his famous collaboration track with Example ‘Unorthodox’ the crowd filled in for Example with every word. It was a true reminder of how much of a hit this track has become.
Wretch then explained that as a rapper he often gets asked to perform on other people’s tracks for their remix. He went on to perform a remix of Labrinth’s now worldwide smash hit ‘Earthquake’ – as always the crowd filled in for Labrinth on a track that has crowds bouncing along without fail.
Sticking with his feature verses, Wretch performed his verse on Tinie Tempah’s ‘Like It Or Love It’ from the Happy Birthday E.P. He then went straight into his performance of ‘Forgiveness’. Each and every time this track is performed you can still sense the feelings as Wretch raps his verses. As the vocals of the amazingly talented Etta Bond played out on the backing track once again the crowd were in full voice.
Up next was ‘Don’t Go’. Before performing Wretch explained that he would need the crowd to act as Josh Kumra as he wasn’t able to be there. The Mallorca crowd were only too happy to oblige. Josh would have been proud!
The finale for the set was the track that gave Wretch 32 his first taste of commercial success, Traktor. Still the ultimate club banger, BCM went wild!
DJ Scott Page took over on the decks briefly whilst the crowd awaited the arrival of Taboo. Speaking to Taboo before he made his way down to the DJ booth he explained that he likes to think of his show as ‘an experience and an extension of the types of shows he and the Black Eye Peas used to perform’.
As he made his way into the booth, Taboo was greeted by huge cheers from the waiting crowd. After giving a shout out to the ‘homeboy Wretch 32′ he went into his 90 minute DJ set playing many classic tunes. One of the most popular tracks was the new Calvin Harris track featuring Example ‘We’ll Be Coming Back’
Not content with just standing behind the decks, Taboo got stuck in with some crowd interaction grabbing his official cameraman’s camera and jumped on stage and took photos and filmed footage of himself with the crowd. A natural entertainer, the “DJ Taboo Experience” is one not to missed.
