Last Tuesday (17th July) saw the turn of Tinie Tempah to perform at the 10th Mallorca Live event of the 2012 Summer season. With 4000 people gathered in BCM square (behind the back of the legendary BCM nightclub), the night kicked off with warm up DJ sets from Bhima Logan and Rossy P. The pair entertained the crowd with a selection of commercial RnB, House and Dubstep tracks that had the party mad crowd singing along and dancing. With free drinks for the first hour at the many bars in the square and the 28 degree heat as late as 8.30pm, the crowd were in good spirits.

Up next was Capital FM’s and BCM resident DJ Andi Durrant. When announcing that part of his set would be recorded to be played on his Capital FM show the roar from the crowd was deafening especially when reminded that this would be played to their UK counterparts who are stuck at home in the rain that has hampered the UK Summer. Durrant kept the crowd energy levels high during his 90 minute set. Tracks such as Dizzee Rascal’s ‘Flex’, Rita Ora’s ‘R.I.P’ and even Dead Prez’s ‘Bigger Than Hip Hop’ drew massive responses from the crowd. Huge cheers went up when Tinie Tempah was spotted emerging from the BCM nightclub into the under-stage dressing room and the chants of ‘Tinie, Tinie’ echoed throughout the square.

At around 10.30, DJ Charlesy (Tinie Tempah’s official DJ) made his way to the stage and was greeted with a huge applause. The experienced DJ who is no stranger to large crowds soaked up the applause and prepared for the main event. As the chants for Tinie continued the dressing room doors opened once again and Tinie Tempah made his way up the stairs to the stage performing his verse from his smash hit with Labrinth ‘Earthquake’ as the already hyped crowd went into overddrive. Next came more popular tracks such as ‘Frisky’, ‘Hitz’, ‘Till I’m Gone’ and ‘Illusion’. During his performance of ‘Wonderman’, Tinie urged the crowd to raise their hands in the air making the now infamous ‘W’ sign (his signature mark). Naturally 4,000 ‘W’s’ went straight into the air and proceeded to bounce up and down as the crowd imitated Tinie’s on stage movements.

Whilst taking a brief pause, Tinie explained to the crowd that he was happy to be in Magaluf (or ‘Shagaluf’ as he affectionately referred to it on a couple of occasions) and that even though it meant being out of the studio where he is completing his second album, he was grateful for the crowd that came out to see him perform. He then proceeded to perform one of his new tracks ‘Drinking From The Bottle’ which as he explained is a reference to nights in VIP at the club where you can’t be bothered to pour a glass. The cheer from the crowd suggested that they totally understood that analogy! The track ended with a champagne shower from Tinie and Charlesy with many in the front rows enjoying being drenched.

Tinie then went into his final two tracks of the night. First up was ‘Miami 2 Ibiza’ with the lyrics being altered to ‘Mallorca’ as the beat kicked in and the crowd chanted along. Then came the finale. The beat of ‘Pass Out’ kicked in and as has been the case since we all first heard the track back in late 2009 / early 2010 the crowd reaction was insane! For the first spin through, the crowd sang most of the words as Charlesy turned the volume down on the track. Tinie simply stood in awe and all he and Charlesy could say is ‘Wow!’ Second time round it was much the same with Tinie moving across the stage working various sides of the crowd to sing along with him. Once again, taken aback by the crowd, Tinie ordered Charlesy to spin the track for a third time this time asking everyone to take their tops off and spin them in the air. This crowd didn’t need to be asked twice as a sea of white t-shirts took to the sky. It was truly a sight that had to be seen! Even the celebrities side of stage including International DJ / Producer Afrojack and Radio 1′s Judge Jules could only look on and applaud in amazement at an amazing live set.

Speaking to Tinie after his set about performing in Mallorca he said: “I just love the vibe out here. It’s completely different to anywhere in the world.” This and both his and DJ Charlesy’s post performance tweets summed up what was a truly awesome night in Mallorca:

With 10 more Mallorca Live events to go for the Summer it seems as though the team have struck gold producing one of the most talked about set of events on the island. With Tinie Tempah set to return for Mallorca Live on Sunday 29th July for his show inside BCM nightclub and a string of other top acts performing over the next few weeks you’d be advised to go and grab your tickets now as it is truly an event not to be missed.
