This has been a summer full of huge dance anthems, mental drum ‘n’ bass tunes and more electronic pop than you can ever imagine. Which is why ‘Blind As I Am’, the debut single from Indiana, is such a breath of fresh air.
Filmed in a deserted school, the video is as haunting as the song itself; having been given the legendary title of ‘Discovery of the Week’ by Radio 1′s Huw Stephens and even played by Queen of the Decks, Annie Mac, it’s easy to understand why ‘Blind As I Am’ is going to be such a sensation.
In a world where the likes of Nicki Minaj and Rihanna are dominating the charts with songs dedicated to “boys with the boomin’ system” and precious gemstones, the music industry is a hard place to showcase your talent. But, every once in a while, I get lucky and stumble across an artist who knows what the music biz is all about and what it truly needs. Well, this is my once in a while and Indiana is that artist.
Hailing from Nottingham, with only 146 Twitter followers under her belt, Indiana’s first steps into the music world involve YouTube, a cover of Joe Goddard’s club anthem ‘Gabriel’ and the song’s original composer, John Beck. Through these three things, the beauty that is the video for ‘Blind As I Am’ was born.
The single will be released on November 19 but in the meantime, do what I’m doing and just keep hitting the repeat button on the YouTube video.
