WE LOVE ::: AlunaGeorge ‘Your Drums, Your Love’

Ahead of the MOBO Awards this week, it’s only right to draw your attention to the duo nominated for Best Newcomer, AlunaGeorge and their stunning video for ‘Your Drums, Your Love’.

With Aluna Francis providing the sultry vocals and George Reid producing the infectious music, these two Londoners are definitely ones to watch and could possibly give fellow Best Newcomer nominees such as Delilah, Angel and Conor Maynard a run for their money.

Following the success of their hit video for ‘You Know You Like It’, the pair have delivered another alluring visual that compliments their new single effortlessly. Using good friend Arran Gregory’s illustration exhibition at The Print House Gallery in Dalston for their backdrop, Aluna is seen wandering past pieces of artwork, almost as if in a daze, while her smooth voice draws you in.

Strategically placed around Aluna are street dancers, who put on an impressive display of popping and locking and have been choreographed to perfection by Brooke Milliner from the dance crew Plague/Prototype.

I particularly appreciate the way that the inclusion of the dancers doesn’t distract from Aluna and they in fact seem to add to the intensity of her presence. While they remain stiff and rigid in their body locking, she flows between them gracefully, making each scene blend seamlessly.

George appears every now and then, but the focus is very much on Aluna throughout. Much like their music, you know George is there as he is the one providing the beat, but what truly grabs you is the welcoming and slightly raspy sound of Aluna singing over it.

The duo do a good job of combining pop and dubstep with soulful vocals to make a unique track that is extremely easy and refreshing to listen to. The video is simple, but effective and if they don’t pick up that MOBO Award on Saturday night, I’m sure more nominations will be coming their way in the near future.

If you fancy checking AlunaGeorge out live, they will be on tour in November. Tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.co.uk and www.livenation.co.uk
