WE LOVE ::: God Damn

I’m not one to shy away from heavy rock music, despite normally giving myself a headache from the stupid amount of head-banging I seem to think is necessary every time I hear a guitar riff. Throw me in a mosh pit and I’ll mosh until I can barely stand (or a heavily tattooed man with piercings through every visible patch of skin growls at me…) because I love how much a genre of music can bring it’s fans together so closely…literally.

Listening to God Damn evokes all those kinds of emotions; I want to be surrounded by like minded people who can appreciate a little heavy rock music every so often. Personally, I think it’s a genre that gets severely overlooked in recent times and I’m hoping that God Damn are here to change that. It’s time the world stops grinding on each other to a soundtrack of hip hop music and starts head-banging to a band that I see enormous amounts of potential in.

Whilst listening to their Soundcloud, I’m amazed by the quality of the instrumental within the songs; it’s obvious that a lot of attention, talent and time has gone into every single instrument being played. However, that’s not to say that other aspects of the music have been overlooked because that’s so far from the case. Every single factor of the music is completely on par, it’s entertaining and every single song is different from the last one – unlike a lot of heavy rock music, God Damn have made sure variety plays a big part within their music.

There’s something really passionate about this genre of music and I personally feel as those God Damn encapsulate that perfectly. Maybe it’s the sweatiness of a hardcore mosh-pit and the proximity of which everybody has to stand next to each other but I’m certain there’s something in the music that evokes certain emotions for people. For me, God Damn have reminded me of my first rock gig, my first mosh pit and the first tattooed musician boy I convinced myself I was in love with. They bring out the 14 year old me, happy to give anything a go and unfazed by the seriously hardcore heavy rock lovers stood next to me because I was so involved with the music.

In fact, that’s exactly what God Damn do to me: they involve individuals with the music and that alone gives the listener a sense of familiarity with the band.

If you’re a fan of BRMC, Charger, Black Sabbath or The Vines, you’ll LOVE God Damn. Actually, I’m a big fan of The Beatles but I love God Damn.
