WE LOVE ::: The Fridge Magnets

When Indie and Electronic genres cross paths it is rare you get music that has both strong lyrics and vocals, with a dance floor beat to match, unless you are the Fridge Magnets. The electro-indie rockers describe their sound as “a mash up of Calvin Harris and Deadmau5 with elements of Example and Faithless”, a pretty big list to live up to. After listening to some of their recent releases I can safely say, they are not only living up to it, but raising the standard.

Originally from Scotland, Fridge Magnets are made up of five young, ambitious and talented guys; Ciara Pasi (bass), Laurie Sanderson (lead guitar), Chris Philip (drums), Campbell Nelson (synthesiser/programming) and frontman, Steve Winton.

The Fridge Magnets are already making huge waves in the electronic music industry and proving they are destined for big things. Earlier this year they won the ‘Best Electronic Act’ award at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards and picked up the ‘Best Electronic Band’ at the Electronic Music Maker Awards. Adding to this they secured a playlist slot on Radio 1, from their ‘Feeling Grows’ demo alone, and have been receiving support from the Radio 1’s powerhouse DJs such as Annie Mac, Nick Grimshaw and Huw Stephens to name a few.

Their forthcoming debut single ‘She Don’t Dance (With The Sun No More)’ is set to be released 22 October on Distiller Records. Produced by UK DJ/producer Hervè known for dance hits such as ‘Beeper’ and ‘Better than a BMX’, I think he is on to another winner. It is a track that brings together the best from both genres, with infectious lyrics layered on top of bouncy, uplifting electro beats. ‘She Don’t Dance’ definitely has the put on repeat factor.

The Fridge Magnets have arrived and are making an unforgettable entrance.
